Two shimmering, faceted, green kyanite gemstones in a rare cut adorn a pair of handcrafted sterling fern leaves in marquise frames. I fabricated the ferns from sheet metal and wire- sawing, engraving, soldering, polishing, and texturing each delicate leaf.
They hang from 20 gauge handcrafted sterling silver ear wires.
Green kyanite is a rare and captivating gemstone, prized for its delicate, soft green color. With a hardness of 4.5-5 on the Mohs scale, green kyanite is a relatively fragile stone, requiring gentle care. Its translucent to transparent clarity and vitreous luster add to its allure, making it a sought-after choice for jewelry and collectors. Kyanite is often found in association with other minerals, such as quartz and feldspar, and is typically mined in limited quantities, adding to its rarity and charm.
Green kyanite is also a relatively rare gemstone, but it can be found in several locations around the world. Some of the most notable sources of green kyanite include:
- Brazil: Known for producing high-quality green kyanite with vibrant color.
- Kenya: Green kyanite from Kenya is often associated with other minerals like quartz and feldspar.
- Tanzania: Tanzanian green kyanite is prized for its delicate, soft green color.
- United States: Green kyanite can be found in the United States, particularly in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina.
- Myanmar (Burma): Myanmar is also a known source of green kyanite, although the quality and quantity can vary.
It's worth noting that green kyanite is a relatively rare gemstone, and high-quality material can be difficult to find.
Green kyanite is also believed to be a powerful and balancing gemstone, said to bridge the heart and throat chakras. It's said to promote emotional healing, calmness, and inner peace, helping to soothe the heart and quiet the mind. Green kyanite is also thought to enhance communication, encouraging authentic expression and empathy. As a stone of connection, it's said to foster deeper relationships, self-love, and a sense of unity with the natural world.
