Delicate sterling silver ferns grow above flashes of brilliant blue labradorite in these entirely handcrafted botanical earrings. Long and airy in silhouette, they pair intricate silverwork with faceted gemstones that come alive in vivid electric blue as they catch the light.
Each fern begins as a drawing on a flat sheet of sterling silver. I cut the design out by hand with a jeweler's saw, then hammer, solder and shape the individual fronds to transform that flat sheet of metal into a dimensional botanical form. The small irregularities left by the process are part of the character of the work- each fern is individually drawn, cut and formed by hand tools instead of a machine.
Suspended beneath the ferns are geometric faceted labradorites set in fine silver. Their angular diamond-like shapes and deep blue flash create a beautiful contrast with the delicate, organic lines of the silver leaves. Small hand-forged sterling details connect the elements and allow the stones to move freely below the ferns.
Despite their nearly 2.75-inch length, the open construction keeps these statement earrings relatively lightweight at approximately 4 grams each.

About the stone
Labradorite is a feldspar treasured for the optical phenomenon known as labradorescence. Light interacting with the stone's internal structure produces flashes of color that can appear and disappear as the viewing angle changes. These particular stones have a dark base with striking blue flash, intensified by their faceted surfaces.
Stone note: Labradorite's flash changes with lighting, movement and viewing angle. At some angles these stones will appear much darker, while at others the brilliant blue becomes prominent.
I pour my heart and soul into crafting these unique, artisanal jewelry pieces. From concept to completion, every detail is carefully considered and executed by my own two hands in my humble home studio, ensuring a truly one-of-a-kind treasure.
