Built around an extraordinary hand-carved labradorite, this one-of-a-kind statement necklace is as much a piece of metalwork as it is a collection of gemstones. The large central stone is carved with an intricate leafy botanical design, its surface shifting through a brilliant rainbow of blue, turquoise, green, orange and gold as the light moves across it.

Beneath the labradorite, five individually set gemstones form a stylized botanical arrangement: mint and teal kyanites alongside a delicately faceted, high-grade Australian chrysoprase. Each stone becomes part of the composition, with cool aquatic blues and luminous greens echoing the changing colors within the labradorite above.

Nearly every part of this piece was constructed by hand. The sterling silver front was individually drawn, pierced with a jeweler's saw, textured and shaped, with hand-forged accents throughout. Even the decorative bezel surrounding the carved labradorite began as a hand-drawn design before being pierced from sheet metal, soldered and formed around the stone.

The reverse is its own piece of artwork. An extensively hand-pierced botanical backplate creates a peekaboo design, allowing the colors of the gemstones to show through leaves, stems and tiny openings in the silver. Rather than concealing the stones, the back was designed specifically to celebrate them.

At 4.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, and weighing approximately 53 grams, this is a substantial piece of wearable art and one of the most elaborate necklaces I've created.

About the Stones:

Labradorite is treasured for its remarkable shifting color and has long been associated in crystal traditions with transformation, intuition and self-discovery. Often considered a stone of transition, it is believed to encourage imagination and help illuminate possibilities that may otherwise remain hidden. The carved labradorite at the heart of Verdant Reverie shifts through blue, turquoise, green and gold, making its symbolism of change especially fitting.

Kyanite is traditionally associated with clarity, balance and communication. It is often used symbolically to encourage a sense of alignment and the clearing away of mental or emotional obstacles. This piece combines both mint and deep teal kyanites, bringing different shades of cool green and blue into the botanical composition.

Chrysoprase has traditionally been associated with the heart, renewal, growth and new beginnings. Its fresh green color has made it a natural symbol of spring, abundance and the restorative energy of the natural world. The high-grade Australian chrysoprase in this piece has an especially luminous aqua-green color, delicately faceted to catch the light while preserving the stone's beautiful saturation.

Together, the stones create a palette centered around transformation, clarity, growth and renewal—themes that feel particularly at home within the leaves and botanical forms of Verdant Reverie.

Labradorite stones often feature small inclusions, which are a natural result of the stone's unique formation process. Labradorite is a type of plagioclase feldspar that forms through the slow cooling of magma deep within the earth's crust. As the magma cools, tiny particles of other minerals can become trapped within the stone, creating small inclusions. These inclusions are a testament to the stone's natural origins and do not detract from its beauty or value.

Labradorite is also revered for its powerful shielding properties, offering protection from negative energies, electromagnetic pollution, and emotional drain. It's said to create a barrier of light around the wearer, deflecting unwanted influences and promoting a sense of safety and well-being. By shielding us from negative energies, labradorite allows us to stay grounded and centered, even in chaotic or challenging environments.
